In recent years, Alaska Health Centers migrated from providing co-located clinical service to focus on providing whole person care to maximize patient wellness. Behavioral healthcare is an essential element of the whole person care that all community health centers strive for.

Fortunately, many of Alaska Health Centers are working towards integrating behavioral health into their clinics and whole person care routine. APCA’s partnership with Alaska Behavioral Health Association emphasizes the importance of Behavioral Health Integration (BHI) as part of the whole person care model.

In addition to working with entities within the State of Alaska to support BHI, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) also promote behavioral health integration in services provided to Medicaid/Medicare recipients. Because there is an apparent need for behavioral health services at Alaska’s CHCs, it’s important for legislation to reflect the need of BHI to support behavioral health of all Alaskans.
